Our Social Anxiety, Shyness and Sensitivity Group was developed to take you on a unique journey of observation, exploration, and experimentation that will help nurture a new more adaptive relationship between your anxiety and your authentic self.

Social anxiety, Shyness, and Sensitivity therapy Group - San francisco, ca

TOGETHER WE WILL:

  • Establish a support group of people who understand what it is like to live with social anxiety.

  • Examine the nature of your social anxiety.

  • Play with awareness of anxiety through the investigation of physical sensations, thoughts, and behaviors.

  • Learn relaxation, behavioral, and mindfulness skills to help regulate anxiety.

  • Explore the macro and micro causes/influential forces of your social anxiety from the dimensions of mind, body, emotion, and spirit.

  • Take a closer look at supportive and unsupportive self-care strategies.

  • Understand and create a new relationship with your social anxiety through art, narrative, and experiential exercises.

  • Determine your short-term and long-term goals and objectives.

  • Externalize your social anxiety through dis-identification and defusion techniques.

  • Practice anxiety-provoking situations in a safe and supportive environment.

Our Social Anxiety, Shyness and Sensitivity Group was developed by myself and my colleague Victoria Spiers MFT to take you on a unique journey of observation, exploration, and experimentation that will help nurture a new more adaptive relationship between your anxiety and your authentic self.

The experience of social anxiety is related to a number of common personality styles and traits including being shy, introverted, perfectionistic, and highly sensitive. It is usually characterized by a persistent fear of criticism, rejection, and/or disapproval by others especially when interacting with people, being observed by people, and/or performing in front of people.

Social discomfort can also be due to overarousal or the dread of being overaroused. Through the lens of Transpersonal Psychology, Psychosynthesis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Gestalt, we will discover new things about ourselves and this fear of disapproval and overarousal that we all share in common.

This is a holistic integrative 10 week series that happens once a year. And the group will be limited to no more than 8 participants.
